Join the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Explorers – Application: Explorer Application Packet

The Bonneville County Law Enforcement Explorer Post 117 was organized in May of 1981 to offer young men and women of the community an insight into the field of law enforcement as a possible career. The Post provides an opportunity for interested persons to work closely with law enforcement officers both in the classroom and in the field.

The Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a self-governing organization which elects its own officers i.e., President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer. It is chartered through the Boy Scouts of America and is sponsored by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. Adult leadership is provided by a Post Advisor, appointed by the Sheriff, who coordinates and approves all lectures, training, and Post activities. The Post Advisor selects several Assistant Advisors, from the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Reserve, County Commissioners, and parents of the Explorers to assist him/her.

Lectures

Meetings are held twice per month to conduct Post business and to present lectures by law enforcement officers representing the Sheriff’s Office, City Police, State Police, etc. Typical lecture topics are as follows:

  • Police Ethics
  • Radio Procedures
  • Crime Prevention
  • Drug Abuse & DUI
  • Traffic/Crowd Control
  • Court Procedures

Training

Training is provided to familiarize the Explorer with some of the essential police tools. However, the training only familiarizes the Explorers and does not qualify or allow them to use these tools in the Explorer program.

  • Firearms
  • Search & Seizure
  • Bicycle Safety
  • Handcuffs
  • Boat Inspections

In addition, all Explorers are required to maintain their personal physical fitness and be certified in Advanced First Aid & CPR.
