PRESS RELEASE
RE: Aggressive Driving Mobilization
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is taking part in an Aggressive Driving Mobilization through the end of April, as part of a collaboration with the Idaho Office of Highway Safety and Law Enforcement across the state. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and by using extra funds from the Idaho Office of Highway Safety we are able to put extra Patrol Deputies on our roads looking for those Distracted or Aggressive drivers.
Deputies have responded to over 400 reports of vehicle crashes in Bonneville County this year, and almost all of them have a contributing factor of Speed, Inattention, or some type of Distraction. Many of these crashes could have been prevented by driver’s obeying the speed limit, avoiding distractions, and making attention to driving a priority. When you make paying attention to your driving a priority, you reduce the risk of injuring yourself, your passengers, and others on the road. It goes without saying that injuries from a crash significantly disrupt lives and can be very traumatic. Utilizing the safety systems in your car, wearing a seatbelt, and wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can greatly reduce that level of disruption and parallels the increase in safety by obeying traffic laws and avoiding distractions.
As this Aggressive Driving Mobilization is underway across the state, extra Deputies on patrol will be working various high traffic areas at varying times where we’ve seen crashes and where we’ve had traffic complaints and issues. We hope to educate motorists of how important safe driving is and reduce the impact on our community that comes from vehicle crashes. Motorists who do safe things set a great example for other drivers which greatly helps our Deputies in the overall goal of promoting safety.
