PRESS RELEASE

RE:  Wanted man arrested for Aggravated Battery, Possession of Methamphetamine

Around 4am on July 4th, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence near 25th E. and Iona Rd. to a report of a vehicle theft.  While Deputies were in route, dispatch advised the suspect, 19 year old Randy S. Rigby, ran over the victim with the vehicle before leaving the area.

Deputies and Ambulance Personnel arrived to find the victim with several injuries and dirty ripped clothing.  The victim advised Deputies he came home to find his vehicle missing.  A while later he observed his brother pull in to the residence in the vehicle and he confronted him outside about it.  During this time Rigby pushed the victim down twice before getting back in the car to drive away.  In doing so, the victim became stuck underneath of the vehicle and told Deputies he was dragged for about 100 yards before being able to roll away.  Deputies observed evidence of tire marks and mud through the neighboring yards indicating a vehicle left at a high rate of speed, as well as muddy footprints from the victim.

Just after 10am, Deputies located the vehicle in question parked at an apartment complex on S. Curlew Dr.  Deputies identified an apartment where Mr. Rigby was known to frequent and attempted to make contact.  During this time a male subject was caught by Deputies jumping out a back window to the apartment and detained.  Deputies could see Mr. Rigby through the window trying to hide on the floor, and after complying with commands he was taken into custody.

Rigby admitted to Deputies that he took the victims vehicle because he wanted to go “joyriding” and said he thought he had killed the victim by dragging him down the road.  Deputies located a backpack in Mr. Rigby’s possession that contained several items of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of Methamphetamine.  Mr. Rigby admitted to Deputies he had been using Methamphetamine a couple days prior to this incident.

Mr. Rigby was transported to the Bonneville County Jail and booked on 2 outstanding Misdemeanor Warrants from the Idaho Falls Police Department for Failure to Appear.  Rigby was also booked on new Felony charges of Aggravated Battery and Possession of Methamphetamine, in addition to a new Misdemeanor for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
