PRESS RELEASE

RE:  Felony DUI arrest

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an intoxicated man last Friday night (Dec. 31st) who ran his vehicle off the road, nearly striking a utility pole.  A witness contacted dispatch at 9:25pm after seeing the vehicle drive off the roadway and into a residential yard at the intersection of Neil Dr. and E. Sunnyside Rd.  The witness told Deputies the driver appeared to be severely intoxicated and was trying to get his vehicle unstuck from the snow.

Deputies arrived and identified the driver as 59-year-old Lance L. Kelsey of Ammon.  Mr. Kelsey told Deputies he had been drinking earlier in the day and that he was on his way to a friend’s house when he slid off the road.  Deputies attempted to have Mr. Kelsey perform field sobriety tests, however he fell to the ground several times and could not physically hold himself up.

At that time Deputies had to carry Mr. Kelsey to a patrol car where he could sit while they administered a breath test.  The results of that test showed Mr. Kelsey’s alcohol level to be more than 4 times the legal limit.

Mr. Kelsey was placed under arrest and after being checked at Idaho Falls Community Hospital he was transported to the Bonneville County Jail.  A check of Mr. Kelsey’s criminal history showed at least 3 prior convictions for DUI since 2016 and he was booked into jail for Felony Driving Under the Influence and Misdemeanor Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol.
