Two Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies were recognized for their hard work at the annual Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Banquet on September 16th. Dep. Abram Rivera and Dep. Greg Rix were both presented with letters of appreciation and a plaque by the CIT Steering Committee for their work with persons experiencing a mental health crisis in the course of their duties. Dep. Rivera, who works in the Bonneville County Jail as part of the Detention Team in the Special Housing Unit, has been integral in helping inmates manage crisis while incarcerated in our facility. Dep. Rix, who oversees security personnel at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital, is often dealing with people in crisis during the evaluation process at the Emergency Room and plays a big part in safety and facilitating resources during that process.

The CIT program and steering committee have been instrumental in developing training and resources for Law Enforcement and Mental Health resources in our area for more than a decade. The yearly banquet is part of a week long CIT course that trains Law Enforcement and First Responders on recognizing and dealing with a wide variety of mental health issues, early activation and intervention of mental health resources, and more. The program is crucial in helping those in crisis get to a safe path for resources that are productive for the individual. Nearly all Law Enforcement officers in East Idaho and a large number from surrounding areas and states have been to this CIT training and work together with mental health resources on a daily basis in our communities.

We appreciate the hard work of the CIT Steering Committee and partners who make this training possible for our team and public safety everywhere. Thank you for recognizing Deputies from our BCSO team who apply the skills from this program to make a difference.
