Citizens of Bonneville County,
It is with strong concern that I compose this letter. For three and a half years the current presidential administration has allowed the changes made at our Southern Border to continue. What has always been a challenge at our southern border was made untenable by the administration’s policy changes related to asylum claims and how they are processed. They have allowed millions to enter with little or no understanding of their background or identity. This administration pulled Border Patrol Agents from the border to processing areas to move those illegally entering the United States into the interior of our Nation. This has increased the danger to the citizens of our entire nation. These practices are also destabilizing to the nations these immigrants are leaving. These changes were completed by executive order of the President and are within his ability to correct. He has recently made a token executive order to appear to fix the issue, but it has not.
The presidential executive orders have empowered the criminal cartels based in South and Central America to victimize migrants, increase drug and human trafficking, expanding their criminal networks inside the United States and other countries. The current policies are not humane, and many migrants have been robbed, rapped, murdered, sold into indentured servitude or died on their journey to the United States.
I have attached the recent letter issued by the American Sheriffs’ Alliance. This alliance represents the majority of Sheriffs. I have on a previous occasion addressed some of these concerns in a press release. What I want to make you all aware of today is that nothing has changed, and our federal government is failing to adequately address the issue. As Citizens, I encourage you to make your voices heard by contacting your Federal Representatives and Senators and sending correspondence to the White House respectively demanding meaningful solutions to these issues.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Samuel M. Hulse
