NEWS RELEASE
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an intoxicated man early this morning after a brief pursuit that ended when Deputies disabled his vehicle. At approximately 3:00am this morning a Deputy observed a vehicle driving over the speed limit and failing to maintain it’s lane on Northgate Mile in Idaho Falls. As the Deputy prepared to initiate a traffic stop, he observed the vehicle swerve to avoid rear ending another vehicle at the Lincoln Rd. intersection and then continue at a high rate of speed on N. Yellowstone. During this time the vehicle was weaving in it’s lane and at one point driving off of the roadway but would not pull over for the Deputy.
As they approached N. Yellowstone and 49th N. the Deputy utilized the Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) to turn the vehicle and stop it’s continued movement on the roadway. Deputies were then able to approach and take the driver safely into custody.
The driver, 30 year old Miguel Trejo Duran of Idaho Falls, showed signs of impairment and Deputies found open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. Duran was taken to the hospital to obtain a blood sample to determine his level of intoxication before being transported and booked into the Bonneville County Jail. Mr. Duran was booked into jail on Felonies for Driving Under the Influence and Eluding.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone of how important it is to avoid getting behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking or using intoxicating substances regardless of how much. It is not worth the risk to other drivers and yourself and much easier to plan ahead and find a safe ride home.
