NEWS RELEASE
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatality crash involving a motorcycle and a garbage truck that took place yesterday afternoon (Aug. 13) on 160th E. near Old Ririe Hwy. Deputies were called to the scene at approximately 12:30pm with Idaho Falls Ambulance and Jefferson Central Fire to a report the motorcycle collided with the garbage truck and the rider was stuck underneath. As Deputies and emergency personnel arrived, they were able to free the rider from the truck and begin life saving measures. During this time Air Idaho Rescue was dispatch and arrived on scene a short time later.
The rider was identified as 49-year-old Jeremy Paul Hurst of Madison County and despite life saving measures he succumbed to his injuries on scene. The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Deputies determined Hurst was riding north on 160th E. and did not notice the garbage truck parked on the side of the road in time to safely maneuver around it. Witnesses advised Hurst laid the bike on its side just prior to collision with the truck. Hurst was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No other persons were injured in the crash and the investigation is still on going.
