UPDATED NEWS RELEASE

RE: Bonneville County Jail Medical Emergency

Investigators with the Tri-County Sheriff’s Association and the Bonneville County Coroner’s Office have concluded their investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Jarred Scott Wallander at the Bonneville County Jail on February 13th, 2024. Mr. Wallander was discovered by Deputies unresponsive in his cell around 2:00am that night and despite life-saving measures were unable to resuscitate him.

The investigation revealed Mr. Wallander was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on February 10th after being arrested for outstanding Warrants and Drug Charges. Deputies had placed Mr. Wallander on a medical watch protocol based on information discovered in the booking process, housing him in a cell where he could be appropriately monitored. Deputies discovered Mr. Wallander unresponsive in the early morning hours during a regular check of his cell but were unable to revive him.

An autopsy was coordinated through the Bonneville County Coroner’s Office with the assistance of a Forensic Pathologist with the Ada County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results revealed Mr. Wallander suffered from an undetected acute medical condition that ultimately caused his death. No other acute injuries or trauma that would have contributed to death were identified.
