NEWS RELEASE
Over the next two weeks Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies are teaming up with the Idaho Office of Highway Safety to intercept Distracted Drivers. This mobilization is in conjunction with multiple Law Enforcement agencies across the state working to make our roads safer by educating drivers how important paying complete attention to your driving is. Extra Deputies will be working this mobilization looking for distracted drivers, aggressive driving, seatbelt violations and general traffic enforcement.
Building good driving habits and creating your own culture of safety is contagious and can affect others in your life. Two of the most identifiable factors our Deputies identify when investigating crashes are speed and inattention. In most cases, if one or both of those factors had not been present there may not have been a crash to begin with. Additionally, wearing your seatbelt and taking full advantage of the safety systems in your vehicle can make a difference between walking away or a serious injury or fatal outcome.
Now that roads are clear of seasonal snow and ice, motorists shouldn’t ignore changing weather or other road hazards. Idaho still experiences severe weather that can change road conditions quickly, lower visibility, or inhibit safe control of your vehicle. Paying complete attention to your driving is the best way to anticipate those changes so you can properly slow down and safety arrive at your destination. This is also the time of year when Deputies see more motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians on and around the roadway, especially in school zones. Drivers should pay extra attention around schools, school zones, bus stops, or anywhere kids or pedestrians may be active. If you see a school or school bus, always expect the presence of students. Deputies always recommend wearing a helmet whether you are riding a motorcycle or bicycle to protect yourself.
