NEWS RELEASE
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man Saturday evening (June 27th) at a residence where he was reported to have pointed a gun and made threats to kill persons inside. Deputies were called to a residence in the 2000 N. block of Ammon Rd. just after 10pm after calls to dispatch reported a man trying to force entry into the home. The reporting parties advised the man had pointed a gun at someone and was making verbal threats to kill them.
Deputies arrived in the area and contacted the residents who identified the suspect as 36-year-old Shawn Alan Cochran, advising they last saw him run toward the back of the property. The residents also told Deputies Shawn always carried firearms and knives and believed he would kill them if they went outside.
As Deputies searched the property, they discovered lights turning on and off in a nearby camper that was not supposed to be occupied. Deputies were unable to get anyone inside the camper to respond to verbal commands and utilized an Idaho Falls Police K-9 to search inside. After a few moments Deputies could hear a response from a suspect getting bit by the K-9 and indicating he would come out. The suspect’s identity was confirmed as Shawn Cochran and Deputies were able to take him into custody at that time.
Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance Personnel provided first aide to Mr. Cochran for a dog bite to the arm before he was transported to the hospital for a jail clearance. Mr. Cochran was then transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for Felony Aggravated Assault and Attempted Burglary, as well as Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest.
