Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a Domestic Disturbance that resulted in a shooting overnight (Jan 13th) in the Irwin area. Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance were dispatched to a residence on Rattlesnake Rd just after 8:30pm to a report of a man with a gunshot wound. While in route, dispatchers advised Deputies a female reporting party advised there was a disturbance with her husband and she shot him.
As emergency personnel arrived, a 49 year old man was found with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Idaho Falls Ambulance transported the man to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he is currently being treated.
Deputies spoke to the reporting party, a 47 year old female, who advised she was the only other person in the residence. The woman told Deputies her husband had been threatening to kill her throughout the day, and they eventually began to argue that evening. During the argument, she told Deputies she attempted to call 911 but her husband took the phone away and began choking her. The woman told Deputies the two struggled and eventually she was able to retrieve a handgun and shoot him.
The man involved in this incident is currently being treated for injuries at the hospital and Deputies are continuing to gather evidence and investigate. No further information is available at this time.
