Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded to a residence in the 4000 block of N. Ammon Rd. this afternoon to a report of a stabbing. Dispatchers received the call around 1pm with a reporting party making statements they were stabbed and there were multiple injured people inside the residence. As Deputies responded, Dispatchers continued to try and get clarifying information from the caller about the situation until they disconnected. Information provided at the time was inconsistent enough Dispatchers advised Deputies they were unable to verify whether or not there was an actual emergency.
Multiple Deputies arrived on scene, locating the homeowner and some juveniles inside the residence but did not find anyone injured or an emergency in progress. Deputies are currently in the process of investigating the source of the phone call.
Deputies have responded to a variety of hoax calls and threats in the past, taking emergency resources away from actual emergencies and people in need. Emergency Dispatchers play a crucial role in each call that comes in, gathering information and utilizing available databases and technology to send the appropriate resources and treating each one as real until proven otherwise. Pranks and Hoax reports of threats or emergencies can result in criminal charges and in some instances incur civil penalties of up to three times the cost of resources that responded to it.
