NEWS RELEASE
Through the next few weeks, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) will have extra Deputies working to intercept impaired drivers. Partnering with the Office of Highway Safety and Law Enforcement around the state, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to educate motorists to be responsible in their holiday celebrations and avoid getting behind the wheel if they are impaired.
In just the last 2 months, BCSO Deputies have arrested more than 20 people who were found to be driving a vehicle under the influence and responded to three times as many reports of intoxicated drivers. These numbers are significant enough without adding the same statistics from city and state agencies also working in Bonneville County. Too many of these incidents involve serious injury and sometimes fatal crashes, affecting not just the impaired driver, but also the other passengers and crash victims involved.
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies ask everyone to stay on Santa’s Nice List this holiday season and celebrate responsibly. That means planning ahead for a designated driver or ride, intervening with family who shouldn’t be behind the wheel, and choosing to avoid “buzzed” driving when you feel like everything is fine. Deputies also encourage motorists to report intoxicated drivers to their local Public Safety Dispatch or call *ISP (*477) immediately.
Do safe things. Don’t spoil you holiday celebrations by getting behind the wheel when you’ve been drinking or using intoxicating substances.
