Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies continue to investigate the plane crash at Palisades Reservoir yesterday evening. Around 5:23pm a single engine plane went into the water near the Idaho/Wyoming border while doing acrobatic maneuvers. Boaters in the area made it to the plane, recovered the pilot and began life saving measures until they reached first responders at the shoreline.
The pilot, a 53 year old male from California, had been flying in the area with another small plane and was the only occupant.
Star Valley EMS continued with life saving efforts and transported the pilot to Star Valley Hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The pilot’s name is being withheld at this time pending notification of family and friends.
Deputies are working with the FAA and NTSB on the investigation and are asking the public to stay clear of the crash site and wreckage.

RE: Small plane crash in Palisades Reservoir
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently on scene of a small plane crash in the Palisades Reservoir near Alpine, WY. Witnesses called dispatch at approximately 5:23pm reporting a plane in the water as well as several boaters in the area moving toward it to assist. While emergency crews were in route, boaters were able to rescue the pilot from the wreckage and provide first aide until they could meet with ambulance personnel and Deputies at a nearby shore. First Responders took over rescue efforts at that time.
The pilot was the only occupant of the plane and no other persons were in the water or injured in the crash. Emergency personnel from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (WY), Lincoln County Search and Rescue, Star Valley EMS, Idaho Falls Ambulance, and Idaho State Police responded with Bonneville County Deputies.
Bonneville County Deputies have notified the NTSB of the crash, the cause of which is still under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
