Stop Impaired Driving

August 24, 2024

NEWS RELEASE

Law Enforcement from across the state are mobilizing to intercept impaired drivers from now through the Labor Day weekend. As we come to the end of the 100 deadliest days of summer, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies remind everyone it’s still important to be safe and sober behind the wheel.

Fatalities across the state are trending slightly lower than the previous year, however far too many serious injury and fatal crashes involving alcohol have occurred. Many of which involved buzzed drivers who thought they were ok to drive. These crashes and the life changing circumstances that followed could have been avoided.

As part of this statewide mobilization, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies will be extra resources on the road looking for and intercepting impaired drivers. Deputies hope this message reminds people to celebrate responsibly, but for those who don’t they want to intervene before tragedy strikes.

Be smart in your end of summer celebrations. If you have time to plan what you’re going to do, you have time to plan for a safe ride home. Make certain your driver hasn’t been drinking, don’t rely on that person waiting long enough between consuming alcohol or drugs to feel like they’re not impaired. It could end up being a risk you shouldn’t have taken.

If you suspect someone is impaired, be a good witness and call your local Law Enforcement Dispatch to report it.
