October 20, 2025

NEWS RELEASE

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Jefferson County man in possession of Cocaine and THC products last Friday evening (Oct 17) during a traffic stop. A Deputy observed 19-year-old Rigoberto Avila Mendoza fail to stop at a stop sign near 15th E. and Iona Rd. just before Midnight that evening and initiated a traffic stop. When Deputies contacted Mr. Mendoza, they could smell the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle and discovered his driver’s license was suspended. When asked by Deputies, Mr. Mendoza denied there were any illegal drugs or weapons in the vehicle.

Mr. Mendoza was detained at that time while Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search Deputies located a handgun, Marijuana Joints, and a large amount of edible THC products. Just over 163 grams of Marijuana and THC products were seized at that time.

Mendoza was then placed under arrest and transported to the Bonneville County Jail. During the booking process, Deputies located a small baggie of white powder in Mendoza’s shoe. A field test of the substance, weighing just over 1 gram, indicated it was Cocaine.

Mr. Mendoza was booked into jail at that time on Felony charges for Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, and Introducing Contraband into a Correctional Facility.
