Wanted man taken into custody after trying to flush Fentanyl

February 10, 2025

NEWS RELEASE

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a wanted man last Friday evening (Feb. 7th) after he attempted to flush a fentanyl pill down the toilet. Deputies were called to a residence in the 800 block of Eden just before 7pm after receiving a report that wanted person Jason Cartier was at that location. After arriving, a resident pointed out Mr. Cartier in the living room and Deputies began giving him verbal commands. Mr. Cartier refused Deputies commands and as he started running toward the back of the residence a Deputy attempted to stop him by deploying his Taser. Cartier was able to make it to a bathroom where he barricaded himself inside. Deputies then forced entry through the bathroom door, finding Mr. Cartier attempting to flush items down the toilet, and a second deployment with the Taser was utilized in order to take him into custody. Deputies found broken glass vial and a pill in the toilet that tested positive to the presence of Fentanyl.

Mr. Cartier was taken to the hospital for a medical clearance before being transported to the Bonneville County Jail. Cartier was booked on his outstanding warrant along with new charges for Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor charges of Destruction of Evidence and Resisting Arrest.
