Man arrested for Aggravated Assault

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man early Sunday morning (Aug 25th) after an altercation in an Ammon parking lot. Just before 1am Deputies assigned to the Ammon Division were called to the McDonalds parking lot on S. 25th E. after a man pointed a shotgun out of a vehicle at bystanders and fired it in the air. A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast over the radio, which Deputies in the area located near Hoopes and Parkwood St. Deputies stopped the vehicle, detaining the driver and a passenger identified as 18 year old Daniel Jacob Wise. Deputies also located a shotgun inside the vehicle with a spent shell still inside the chamber.

Reporting parties at the McDonalds parking lot told Deputies Mr. Wise and another 18 year old male had been in a verbal altercation earlier in the evening before Wise ultimately left. During the altercation it was reported Wise threatened the male victim saying he would “pump lead into his chest”. A short while later Wise returned to the parking lot where the victim and others were standing and was seen pointing the shotgun out of the passenger window toward them. The victim and other bystanders told Deputies they ducked behind cars in the parking lot and heard loud bang as the vehicle Wise was in drove away.

Mr. Wise told Deputies he had asked the driver of the car to pick him up earlier in the evening and give him a ride, also mentioning he had smoked marijuana approximately 3 hours earlier. Wise did not make further statements about the incident at that time.

The driver of the vehicle told Deputies he had taken Mr. Wise to the parking lot earlier that evening and witnessed the altercation between him and the victim. After leaving the area, they decided to return to McDonalds to get food. As they pulled into the parking lot and drove near the victim and other bystanders, the driver told Deputies he saw Mr. Wise point the shotgun out the window at them. The driver advised as he quickly started driving away, and in the process heard a loud bang. The driver told Deputies he was aware the shotgun was in the vehicle but did not know Mr. Wise was going to point it out of the window at the victim.

Mr. Wise was placed under arrest at that time and transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked in for Aggravated Assault, a Felony.
