NEWS RELEASE
Through the next week Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies will be joining Law Enforcement agencies across the state in deploying extra patrols on our roads looking for and intercepting aggressive and distracted drivers. Warmer weather brings a different kind of activity on our roadways from pedestrians and bicycles to farm and agricultural equipment. These and other activities along our roadways are a good reminder to motorists of how important paying complete attention to your driving can be and part of the statewide message through this mobilization.
In the month of March, Idaho has seen almost double the fatal crashes compared to the same month last year. There are many factors related to these crashes, however aggressive driving and inattention are almost always present. Data has shown drivers decrease their risk of being involved in a serious crash significantly when they obey traffic laws and avoid distractions. Proper seatbelt use for adults and children, as well as wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle also reduces the risk of serious injuries in the event of a crash.
Do yourself a favor and engage yourself in safe driving habits. Make paying complete attention to your driving a priority and always wear a seatbelt. Avoid aggressive driving behavior and never get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking or using intoxicating substances. Committing to good driving habits will ultimately prevent being the victim of tragedy.
