NEWS RELEASE
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an intoxicated driver of a vehicle seen racing near 1st St. and Woodruff Ave. yesterday evening (Mar. 16th). Just after 9:30pm a Deputy observed two vehicles that appeared to be racing on Woodruff, traveling at speeds near 60MPH. The Deputy was able to stop one of the vehicles finding it to be driven by 33 year old Luis Fernando Cruz Garcia, who had multiple open and sealed containers of alcohol in the vehicle. Additionally, the Deputy observed Garcia showed signs of impairment and proceeded with Field Sobriety Testing.
During sobriety testing, Mr. Garcia admitted to Deputies he had consumed alcohol earlier that evening. Field Sobriety Tests indicated to Deputies Mr. Garcia was too impaired to be driving. Garcia was placed under arrest at that time for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and transported to Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) to obtain a blood sample. Mr. Garcia was then taken to the Bonneville County Jail and booked on Misdemeanor charges for DUI and Open Container of Alcohol in a vehicle. During the booking process, Deputies located drug paraphernalia and a small baggie of Methamphetamine weighing approximately 14 grams in Mr. Garcia’s wallet. Garcia was then booked on additional Felony charges for Possession of Methamphetamine and Introducing Contraband into a Correctional Facility.
