Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 45-year-old Nathan John Cook yesterday evening (Dec. 3rd) after it was reported he threatened his family with a knife. Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Catalina Ave. after 8pm to a report that Cook was intoxicated and using a knife to threaten harm to his family.

As Deputies arrived at the residence and began to detain Mr. Cook, he refused to cooperate and engaged in a physical struggle until he was secured in handcuffs. Cook was not in possession of a knife at that time and Deputies learned his juvenile son was able to get it from him prior to their arrival and hide it in the residence. Deputies noted Mr. Cook showed signs of intoxication and removed alcoholic beverages from his pocket.

The reporting parties in the residence told Deputies earlier Mr. Cook grabbed the knife and threatened to kill his wife if she didn’t give him her phone. Deputies were told Cook had been drinking heavily for a while and had a history of threatening to kill his son, but tonight told his wife he would kill her and the entire family. At one point Mr. Cook was making jabbing motions toward the sons chest at close range with the knife, however the son was able to push him down and take the knife away. Family told Deputies Mr. Cook was intoxicated to the point that he was taken to the hospital the previous day to be checked after falling and had been hallucinating.

Due to Mr. Cook’s intoxication, Deputies transported him to the hospital to be medically cleared before booking him into the Bonneville County Jail for Felony Aggravated Assault and Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the house and one Deputy received a minor injury from Mr. Cook resisting arrest.
