RE: Snake River Drowning Victim Recovered
A man was recovered from the Snake River near downtown Idaho Falls late last night (Jan. 28th) after witnesses saw him in the water. Dispatch received a call around 7:30pm reporting a male was seen in the Snake River yelling for help near Memorial and D. St. but went under and did not resurface. Idaho Falls Fire Swift Water Rescue, Idaho Falls Police and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team all responded and began search efforts. Fire personnel located an area with fresh footprints from the riverbank across an ice shelf to the water that did not return to the bank.
From witness information and investigation Deputies believed the man to be 31-year-old Dylan T. Rummler of Idaho Falls. At approximately 10:20pm Sheriff’s Office Divers located the man, deceased from drowning, at the bottom of the river near where he was believed to have gone in and recovered his body. The victims identify was confirmed as being Mr. Rummler at that time.
Quick action by witnesses and emergency personnel in determining the location and circumstances contributed to the recovery of Mr. Rummler. As a reminder, Deputies remind the public conditions on the Snake River can be very dangerous at any time along with extremely cold-water temperature that makes the window of self-rescue very short as hypothermia sets in. Always use caution around swift water and consider the potential unseen hazards of the area.
