Statewide Seat Belt Enforcement May 20-June 2nd, 2024

May 21, 2024

NEWS RELEASE

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and law enforcement agencies across Idaho, urging drivers to buckle up. From now through June 2nd, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies will join a statewide enforcement effort, issuing citations to those not wearing their seat belt and educating Idahoans on the importance of all drivers and passengers buckling up.

According to OHS seat belt survey data, 87% of Idahoans are making the safe choice to wear their seat belt. Buckling up is the easiest thing you can do to protect yourself during a crash and increases your odds of surviving by 50%. In 2022, 66% of the passenger motor vehicle occupants killed in crashes were not wearing a seat belt. Tragedies that potentially could have been prevented.

This statewide effort coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Click It or Ticket campaign with law enforcement officers across the country. Be smart when driving, wear your seat belt and pay 100% attention to your driving. For more information visit https://shift-idaho.org/seatbelt-safety/.
